It was just few days back that you were holding your baby for the very first time in your arms and started with breastfeeding. But time flies and its already 6 months gone, milk is not an enough source now if you want your little one to be stronger. Milk alone cannot provide all the nutrients required for baby development and also your little one should now adapt to the surroundings. So its time to feed him with some nutrient rich food which also must be lighter on his or her little tummy.So here I am sharing 10 recipes which you can give to your little one from 6 months to 8 months.

1. Recipe for Rice water

The very first safe food that you can start with is rice water

Preparation :

Take half cup rice(preferably Indrayani rice).

Wash it thoroughly 2 to 3 times so that if it has any powder or dust on it it gets removed. Dry it by placing it on a clean cotton cloth.

Once rice is dry, roast it in a pan on small flame till it becomes lighter.

Then add water(triple the amount of rice) , pinch of salt, pinch of asafoetida to the rice and pressure cook it for about 4 to 5 whistles

Once the pressure releases, strain the water from rice. Add some desi cow ghee to it and give it to the baby when it is warm.

This water helps the baby to gain weight and also is a good source of carbohydrates.

2. Recipe for Daal Water

It is also one of the safest food to start with.

Preparation :

Take half cup moong dal

Wash it thoroughly 2 to 3 times Dry it by placing it on a clean cotton cloth.

Once the daal is dry, roast it in a pan on small flame till it becomes lighter.

Then add water(triple the amount of daal) , pinch of salt, pinch of asafoetida and pinch of jeera powder to the daal and pressure cook it for about 4 to 5 whistles

Once the pressure releases, strain the water from rice. Add some desi cow ghee to it and give it to the baby when it is warm.

This water is a rich source of protein and is very gentle on the baby’s tummy.

You can start with this water in 6th month and later on in 7th and 8th month you can add little portion of toor dal to it

3.Recipe for baby’s first khichadi

This one is a tasty dish that your little one will surely enjoy.

Preparation :

Take equal portions of rice and moong dal.

Clean them thoroughly with water and dry them by placing on a cloth.

Once dried, dry roast them along with little jeera and little dhaniya. Roast them till it leaves aroma.

Grind all the ingredients in a grinder mixer in order to prepare a fine powder.

Store this powder in an air-tight container.

When you need to prepare the Khichadi…place 2 cups water for boiling .

Add 2-3 teaspoon of pure cow ghee and a pinch of salt to the boiling water.

Then make a smooth paste of 3 to 4 tablespoons of powder and add this paste to the boiling water slowly stirring the mixture till it gets blended well. You can add more water for required consistency. Allow it to boil for about 3 to 5 minutes . Then the khichadi is ready.

You can start by giving a very loose consistency khichadi to the baby from 6 Month and gradually go on increasing the consistency and quantity.

As your baby turns 7 and is used to the plain khichadi now you cna try variations by adding veggies to the khichadi. But initially go for simple veggies 1/2 like green peas, small piece of carrot, small piece of bottlegourd,ridgegourd. Do not give veggies like cabbage,potato,cauliflower because they may cause gases which will disturb your little one.

As your baby enters the 8th month you can opt for some more veggies.

4.Recipe for sabudana(sago) kheer

This is a very good recipe which helps in increasing weight and also it is helpful when your baby is facing tummy problems or loose motions.

Preparation :

Soak one or two tablespoon of sago in water overnight.

Next day when the sago becomes fluffy, drain the water from it.

Now place 5 cups of water for boiling.

Once the water comes to a boil, add a pinch of salt,pinch of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cow ghee to it.

Then add the sago to it and let it boil for sometime till the sago turns transparent.

Once cooked, drain the water from the mixture and serve it to the baby while it is warm.

5.Recipe for Makhana(Foxnut) kheer

Makhana is a rich source of protein and one of the most nutritious thing that you can serve your baby

Preparation :

Dry roast makhanas in a pan till they become light. They should slightly change the color.

Once they become cool, grind them in a grinder mixer and form powder.

Store this powder in a good container.

When you need to prepare the kheer, take 2 cups milk or water in a pan and bring it to boil.

Add a little bit of sugar if you want but I would suggest giving it in plain form or adding formula milk powder at the end.

Once the milk starts boiling , take 2-3 tablespoon of the makhana powder , make a smooth paste out of it and add it to the boiling milk.

Stir it continuously for 5 minutes and then switch off the flame. Kheer is ready to be served.

Once you baby is 8 months old, you can powdered almond,cashew,pistachois in a small amount to the above kheer to make it more nutritious.

6.Power pack porridge recipe

This is a special recipe which can provide loads of nutrients to the little one which will help strengthen his bones and muscles.

Preparation :

Take 1 cup moong dal,1 cup rice, 3 tablespoon of bajra, jowar,wheat,toor dal,urad dal,dried beans,poha,.

Wash all the above ingredients except for poha , dry them and roast them in a pan separately.

To this mixture, add 1 teaspoon each of jeera, dhaniya, seasame seeds(all roasted),

Grind this mixture into a fine powder and store in an air-tight container.

To prepare the porridge, place 3 cups water to boil.

Add 1 tablespoon cow ghee and a pinch of salt and asafoetida to the boiling water

Make a smooth paste of 3 tablespoon powder and add it to the boiling water. Stir continuously in order to avoid lumps.

Let it boil for 5 minutes and the porridge is ready.

Serve it while warm.

7.Apple Porridge Recipe

It is a fibrous recipe which helps maintain a good appetite of the baby and is recommended to be given 7 months plus.

Preparation :

Take 2 cups of milk and bring it to boil

Add grated apple to the boiling milk.

Add a pinch of cinnamon powder to the above mixture.

Let it boil for 13-20 minutes.

Add a spoonful of formula milk powder for taste.(if required)

Porridge is ready.

8.Oatmeal Recipe

It is a light digestive recipe which the babies enjoy and is also a power pack of essential nutrients.

Preparation :

Take rolled oats and grind them to a fine powder.

To prepare the porridge, place 2 cups of milk for boiling. Add 1 piece of grated apple,1 grated date(khajur) and 2 tablespoon of oats powder paste to the boiling milk.

Let it boil for 15-20 minutes. Then turn off the flame and your apple flavored oats meal is ready

9.Broken wheat porridge

This should never be the first food to be given to the baby.

It can be given when the baby is familiar to many foods like rice, sooji,moongdal,apple etc

Preparation :

Take the broken wheat and dry roast it in a pan. You can also add little pure cow ghee to it.

Once it starts spreading aroma, turn off the flame and allow it to cool.

Once cooled, grind it in the mixer to make a fine powder.

While preparing the porridge, take 3 cups water and bring it to a boil. Add little jaggery and 1 teaspoon of pure cow ghee to it.

After water starts boiling, add a paste of 2 tablespoon of broken wheat powder and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes.

Serve it warm.

10.Carrot(gajar) puree

This recipe is rich in vitamin A and very good for the eyes development of the little one.

Preparation :

Take 1 small carrot. Wash it with clean water.

Peel off the skin and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.

After the cooker cools down, remove the carrot. It must be soft and mushy.

Mash the carrot to make a puree of it.

After this, add 2 cups milk or water to a pan and keep it for boiling. Add a little bit of jaggery and 1 teaspoon of pure cow ghee to it.

Once it starts boiling add the mashed carrot to it and keep stirring till it thickens.

Serve this when warm.
